Integrated AWG-Modulator arrays (AWGMA), as highly integrated modules, deliver key benefits for DWDM technology deployment because of their small footprint and low cost at high volumes.

However a further integration of CW laser arrays is very challenging and not very cost effective for large channel counts.

MCLA technology makes possible to marry (as shown in Fig. 3) a high-performance, compact, low-cost CW laser array with integrated AWGMA providing key capabilities and enabling low-cost, high functional integration of transmitter optics for DWDM transponder suppliers and system integrators.
