Peleton Photonic Systems announced today that it has developed the world’s first multi-channel laser array (MCLA) product designed for deployment in communication systems- a major milestone in creating the next generation of WDM based broadband networks.

The first product in this family, the MCLA-32100, offers 32 DWDM wavelengths spaced by 100 GHz on the ITU grid, in a compact module directly mountable on a system line card. The company will now focus on commercializing the module and plans to begin shipping samples in May of this year.

As broadband traffic demand is exploding, service providers around the world are looking at ways to deliver even more bandwidth over longer distances than ever before. The possibility of harnessing the benefits of DWDM in the access network is compelling but the economics simply never worked…until today. Peleton’s MCLA products deliver the cost, size and performance advantages to enable the transition to a truly scalable, flexible and secure broadband world.

“Employing a wavelength-division multiplexed, passive optical network is the only way service providers can future proof their broadband infrastructure and protect their investment,” said Richard Pepin, President and CEO, Peleton Photonic Systems. “Our goal as we were developing our MCLA product, was to break the economic barriers to mass deployment of WDM-PON. Not only were we able to achieve this, but the performance of our laser is so good that it could even be used for long haul transmission”

Prototypes of the new module will be demonstrated at the OFC/NFOEC conference and exposition in the Anaheim Convention Center, March 27-29, 2007.
